The biggest issue is that we can’t seem to resolve anything. If I voice an opinion, for example on her behaviour of yelling at our child, she gets defensive, blame shifts, voices her disgust at my questioning her, then storms off and doesn’t talk to me for 24 hours. Rinse and repeat every week/month for the last 5 years.

"My question is, are my expectations reasonable? After trying so many ways to talk some of these issues through and getting nowhere, I am getting very stressed, depressed and anxious with the continued conflict which is now also affecting other parts of my life. Dr Paul Cottrell is a researcher in chaos theory and has interests in modeling financial markets. Some have considered him a polymath of sorts. Born in Detroit, Michigan he has extensive professional experience in engineering and design. After retiring from automotive engineering he pursued interests in corporate finance involving the publishing, retail, and non-profit industries. Dr. V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai, the inventor of email and polymath, holds four degrees from MIT, is a world-renowned systems scientist, inventor and entrepreneur. His recent efforts at CytoSolve have led to an FDA allowance and exemption for a multi-combination drug for pancreatic cancer, development of innovative nutraceutical products, as well as numerous industry and academic partnerships. Conclusions: Being unemployed was associated with a twofold to threefold increased relative risk of death by suicide, compared with being employed. About half of this association might be attributable to confounding by mental illness.

ADDICTION
The main results are as follows: (1) Risky alcohol consumption (associated with hazardous, binge, and heavy drinking) is more prevalent among the unemployed. They are also more likely to be smokers, to use illicit and prescription drugs, and to have alcohol and drug disorders (abuse, dependence). (2) Problematic substance use increases the likelihood of unemployment and decreases the chance of finding and holding down a job. (3) Unemployment is a significant risk factor for substance use and the subsequent development of substance use disorders. However, the current research provides only limited information about which individuals are more likely to be affected. (4) Unemployment increases the risk of relapse after alcohol and drug addiction treatment. (5) The exact nature of the relationship between unemployment and the probability of smoking cessation remains unclear due to the mixed results observed in the literature review. (6) Drinking and smoking patterns appear to be procyclical. We see a decrease in both when the economy declines and the unemployment rate increases. In contrast, a countercyclical trend was observed amongst adolescent drug users. However, these studies do not provide any convincing or additional information about substance use amongst the unemployed. This paper discusses the merits, limitations and problems of the research, proposes numerous future research questions, and outlines important implications for policy makers and practitioners, especially with regard to prevention and vocational promotion and rehabilitation.

"Here are my circumstances: I was hired as a psychiatric nurse and started working on [x] at a hospital. I am a new graduate with no experience in the field. The hospital I work at is now at full capacity and there are no more respirators left. My unit is a psych unit so we do not have the normal things a medical floor has.

"Although other hospitals have stopped admitting patients into psych units because of the coronavirus, our hospital continues to admit new patients to the unit. This morning we admitted our first patient with a pending Covid test and she is symptomatic. Although no one from administration is talking to us at all about any of this, my assumption is we will begin to care for these covid patients.

"The hospital is out of equipment. Our floor has not had hand sanitizer for weeks and we are now using shampoo as soap at the only 2 hands sinks we have. Nurses on other units taking care of the covid patients have told me they are reusing n95 masks for days and do not have any gowns.

"They have described the scene on these floors as 'something out of a horror movie.' We have 2 employees so far that have been intubated; one in his sixties the other is 30 years old.

"I want to quit so badly because of the lack of regard for the health care workers health. I am terrified of getting sick and then the hospital not being able to treat me. I have a 3 year old son and my husband at home and I would never be able to forgive myself if they got sick. I know my mind tends to go to worst case scenario but we are seeing healthy people becoming critically ill at the hospital so I don't think I am being too irrational.

"My husband's company just suspended work until further notice so we will not be getting any income if I quit. But we do have enough in savings for at least 6 months of living expenses. My husbands advice has only been 'do what you think is best' and he has also said he would not be upset at if I did quit. Both my husband, son and I have sacrificed so much for me to become a nurse and start working. Our plan was to have my husband stop working to stay home with our son once I was acclimated to my new job. So although I think the chances are high of finding a new nursing job , I feel like I may be throwing all our hard work and sacrifices away. I am in a constant state of panic. I have been following the coronavirus since the beginning and I am kicking myself for still going ahead and getting a job at a hospital before all of this. President Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency on Friday over the coronavirus outbreak, invoking the Stafford Act to open the door to more federal aid for states and municipalities, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The president said he will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. in Washington. Trump spoke Friday with Emmanuel Macron, the French president tweeted, about the pandemic, and agreed to organize a video conference with world leaders on Monday to coordinate research efforts on a vaccine and treatments and work on how to respond to the economic fallout.

Trump is under increasing pressure to act as governors and mayors nationwide step up actions to mitigate the spread, closing schools and canceling public events. Declaring a national emergency would allow the government to marshal additional resources to combat the virus, and also marks a symbolic turning point for the president, who has repeatedly compared the coronavirus to the seasonal flu and insisted that his administration had the outbreak under control.

"The number of people that are infected with the new coronavirus is entirely dependent on how America responds to the outbreak, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

"If we are complacent and don't do really aggressive containment and mitigation, the number could go way up and be involved in many, many millions," Fauci told members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday.

"The community of Chinese people in Italy has grown rapidly in the past ten years. Official statistics indicate there are at least 320,794 Chinese citizens in Italy, although these figures do not account for illegal immigration, former Chinese citizens who have acquired Italian nationality or Italian-born people of Chinese descent."

I think most people aren’t aware of the risk of systemic healthcare failure due to #COVID19 because they simply haven’t run the numbers yet. Let’s talk math.

Let’s conservatively assume that there are 2,000 current cases in the US today, March 6th. This is about 8x the number of confirmed (lab-diagnosed) cases. We know there is substantial under-Dx due to lack of test kits; I’ll address implications later of under-/over-estimate.

We can expect that we’ll continue to see a doubling of cases every 6 days (this is a typical doubling time across several epidemiological studies). Here I mean *actual* cases. Confirmed cases may appear to rise faster in the short term due to new test kit rollouts.

We’re looking at about 1M US cases by the end of April, 2M by ~May 5, 4M by ~May 11, and so on. Exponentials are hard to grasp, but this is how they go.

As the healthcare system begins to saturate under this case load, it will become increasingly hard to detect, track, and contain new transmission chains. In absence of extreme interventions, this likely won’t slow significantly until hitting more than 1% of susceptible population.

What does a case load of this size mean for healthcare system? We’ll examine just two factors — hospital beds and masks — among many, many other things that will be impacted.

The US has about 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 people. With a population of 330M, this is ~1M beds. At any given time, 65% of those beds are already occupied. That leaves about 330k beds available nationwide (perhaps a bit fewer this time of year with regular flu season, etc).

Let’s trust Italy’s numbers and assume that about 10% of cases are serious enough to require hospitalization. (Keep in mind that for many patients, hospitalization lasts for *weeks* — in other words, turnover will be *very* slow as beds fill with COVID19 patients).

By this estimate, by about May 8th, all open hospital beds in the US will be filled. (This says nothing, of course, about whether these beds are suitable for isolation of patients with a highly infectious virus.)

If we’re wrong by a factor of two regarding the fraction of severe cases, that only changes the timeline of bed saturation by 6 days in either direction. If 20% of cases require hospitalization, we run out of beds by ~May 2nd.

If only 5% of cases require it, we can make it until ~May 14th. 2.5% gets us to May 20th. This, of course, assumes that there is no uptick in demand for beds from *other* (non-COVID19) causes, which seems like a dubious assumption.

As healthcare system becomes increasingly burdened, Rx shortages, etc, people w/ chronic conditions that are normally well-managed may find themselves slipping into severe states of medical distress requiring intensive care & hospitalization. But let’s ignore that for now. 12/n
Alright, so that’s beds. Now masks. Feds say we have a national stockpile of 12M N95 masks and 30M surgical masks (which are not ideal, but better than nothing).

There are about 18M healthcare workers in the US. Let’s assume only 6M HCW are working on any given day. (This is likely an underestimate as most people work most days of the week, but again, I’m playing conservative at every turn.)...

A woman who identifies herself as a coworker, claims the head of the Wuhan virus research lab has previously brought lab animals to sell in the public market.
"I am Wuhan virus research lab researcher [X], identity card number [X] . Using my real identity, I report that the head of this facility – [X] has spread this virus. She has no knowledge of the medical sciences, and relied on talent for admission into Beijing University (high-ranking university in China). Daily research activities are undertaken by other researchers. She frequently brings lab experiment animals to sell to the stalls of the Huanan Seafood Market, specializing in wild animals. More people are speaking out, with real-names and identities (Chinese social media uses only real-names).
However, it must be noted that "Spreading rumors on the internet" carries a prison sentence of 7 years and almost complete certainty one will be caught.
The censorship machine is... efficient - her original post was reportedly deleted within minutes.
A response was later posted by the author, claiming that others had posted this with her identity without her permission.
This could be more circumstantial evidence towards the source of the covid-2019/nCov-2019/Wuhan Pneumonia being a bio-lab leak.
It also highlights the great difficulty of definitive proof.

For the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, China's National Health Commission reported on February 14, that at least 1,716 health workers had been infected while treating patients with the virus.
During the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome epidemic in 2002 and 2003, a significant proportion of healthcare workers in mainland China also succumbed to the virus with about 20 percent of them contracting SARS.
On Sunday, Hubei announced tough new measures to try to curb the outbreak, ordering its cities to block roads to all private vehicles. Meanwhile, a newly published speech revealed Chinese President Xi Jinping was aware of the potential severity of the outbreak long before the public was informed.
2 more cases confirmed in Taiwan
Taiwan has reported two more confirmed cases of the coronavirus, saying they were linked to the island's first death and lifted the number of those infected to 22.
The mother of the deceased, who died on Saturday, and a male relative were tested positive, Minister of Health and Welfare told a televised news conference.]]>

The 12th case of coronavirus in the U.S. has been confirmed in a man in Wisconsin.
The last 48 hours have seen significant increases in new cases of 2019-nCoV – a jump of about 4,000 each day. The outbreak continues to be centered in China, which still has 99% of all cases worldwide. Eighty percent of all cases are centered in Wuhan in Hubei province.
Worldwide the number of cases has passed 28,000, the majority of them in China, and the number of deaths is now 565, up from 494 a day ago. All but one of the deaths have been in China, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
Last week, the U.S. government said that foreigners who had traveled to China in the past two weeks will be barred from entering the country, as the White House declared a national public health emergency over the new coronavirus.

According to European CDC, the majority of the confirmed cases -- more than 28,000 – are in China. Nearly 200 are confirmed outside of China in 25 countries. These include: Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Russia, Finland, Spain, Sweden, United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium and Macau. Japan, Thailand and Singapore have the most cases outside of China.
The 12 U.S. cases are in Wisconsin, Illinois, Washington, California, Arizona and Massachusetts. The CDC in total has 293 persons under investigation for coronavirus from 36 states. In addition to the 7 confirmed positive, 206 have tested negative.
On Thursday, a man in Illinois became the first case of person-to-person transmission of the virus in the U.S, the CDC said. He is the husband of a Chicago woman diagnosed with the virus after returning from Wuhan. He is hospitalized in isolation and is stable. His wife, who is in her 60s, is also in isolation and in good condition. The Chicago Department of Public Health reported that she had visited China in December and returned to Chicago earlier this month.]]>
